House of Glam

12 Oct

Hello.  My name is The Beauty Aficionado and I’m a reality tv- a-holic.  I’ve tried to shake it, but I just can’t live without it.  Knowing that bit of background, I almost LOST IT when I found out Oxygen has picked up a new show House of Glam.  Now, all reality is not created equal, but anything with the word “glam” in the title, and I’m all over it like white on rice.  The series is about Brandi Simpkins and her company the B. Lynn Group, which is an agency that houses superstar stylists, hairstylists, and makeup artists, that have worked with celebrity clients like Usher, The Dream, and the infamous Naomi Campbell.  Click on the pic about for a complete synopsis.  I know this is VERY exciting for all you glamazons out there. Tune in TONIGHT at 10/9c on the Oxygen network. Also check out for bios and portfolios of all the stylists. ENJOY, I know I will!!!!

Here are a few of my faves, some of which I have already rocked. What do you think???

Hot like FIRE!!!!!!!

This past Sunday my cousin and I were going down memory lane watching old Aaliyah videos and in the midst of  our nostalgia, we noticed….DANG!!!  Aaliyah’s hair has ALWAYS been fly!!!!!!  From Back and Forth to We Need a Resolution, her hair had just gotten increasingly flyer and flyer!  IF she had any extra additions, they were undetectable.  NOBODY then or now has better hair than Aaliyah.  She truly was a game changer. We miss you Li-Li.  RIP.

Try MAC fluidline ($15)  in black track for a seamless application and a smudge-free finish. And if you’re feeling extra fancy try adding  a pop of color ; )

Checking out one of my favorite blogs, I stumbled across this pic:

The cover of Rih-Rih’s new album. Though it is fabulous, I couldn’t help but notice it was strikingly similar to the world renowned photographer,  Steven Meisel’s Vogue cover. Make-up done of course by none other than the infamous Pat Grath:

So awhile ago, I mentioned to my classmates that I was going to do some video girl makeup and no one knew what I was talking about. WHAT?? I was dumbfounded. I thought EVERYBODY knew what video girl makeup was. During my high school years every one would rush home to catch 106 and park (note: with A.J. and Free NOT Terrance and Roxy) and TRL. It was deemed the highest compliment if someone told you you looked like a video girl. I know what you all are thinking, but hey we were in high school, give us a break.  Anyways, our mission in life was to achieve that look. On Saturdays we would watch videos for hours and then spend hours in the mirror trying to emulate the makeup and hair (and perfecting our dance moves).   Now days the fascination with video girls has worn off but I still appreciate the beautifully artistic makeup in music videos. Here’s an example of then and now. Enjoy : )

Now I know some of you are like who is Anne V.????? While most guys are familiar with the Sports Illustrated/Victoria’s Secret model:

fewer women are familiar with the name.  Click image below for complete bio.
